Cristiano Amon—Qualcomm CEO Pay Rise Despite Profit Drop
Cristiano Amon, the Chief Executive Officer of Qualcomm Incorporated, got an increase in the money he made for the fiscal year 2025. His total compensation went up by 15 percent to almost $30 million. This is interesting because Qualcomm Incorporated made money than before. The company had a drop in net profit. People who invest in Qualcomm Incorporated and those who watch the company are paying attention to this. They do not understand why Cristiano Amons pay went up when the company is not doing well. This is a problem, for investors, analysts and people who care about how companiesre run. Cristiano Amon and his pay are being closely watched by these people.
Qualcomm just put out a report and it says that Amon got a pretty big compensation package for the year. Qualcomms report shows that Amons package included a salary of $1.35 million. He also got stock awards that were around $24.16 million. Amon got -equity incentives of about $3.19 million.. He got around $1 million in other compensation.
The base salary that Amon got from Qualcomm was the same as the year.. His total pay went up and this was mostly because of the equity and incentive awards that Qualcomm gave him for doing a good job with performance metrics. Qualcomms report says that these awards were tied to how Amon did, with these performance metrics.
Qualcomms 2025 results were okay in some ways and not so good in other ways. The company made a lot of money forty four point three billion dollars, which’s up about fourteen percent from the year before. This is because they did well with platforms and automotive chips.. The companys net income went down by forty five percent to five point five billion dollars. This happened because of a tax charge that is not actually cash. This tax charge is related to changes in tax laws in the United States. Even though Qualcomm had sales the tax charge made a big difference, in how much money they made. This makes it seem like they did not do well as they actually did just because of the tax charge.
Amons pay is set up to focus on how he does his job over a long time. 95 Percent of what he gets paid is not fixed it depends on how well the company does and if he meets certain goals. This way what Amon and other top people get paid is connected to how the company does for its shareholders. The company wants to make sure that the people in charge are working to make the company successful for a time not just to get a big paycheck every month.
The company also said that other top people, like the CFO/COO got paid a lot of money than $13 million. Other top executives got, between $9 million and $11 million.
The big question about pay is a problem. It is about how much the CEO gets compared to workers. The CEO of Qualcomm Amon gets paid a lot more than the worker at Qualcomm. In fact Amon gets paid about 292 times more than the Qualcomm worker. This is a difference between what the people in charge get and what the average worker gets. When you look at big companies in the United States Qualcomms pay difference is really big. This makes people talk about whether it’s fair that the people in charge get so much more money than the average worker. The Qualcomm CEO pay ratio is a part of this talk about pay and how much the people, in charge should get.
People who think it is okay to pay executives a lot of money say that giving them incentives based on the companys stock makes them think about the long term. They believe that this also makes sure that the leaders of the company get rewarded based on how the company does over several years. On the hand people who do not agree with this say that when executives get paid more at times when the company is not making as much money it can make the other employees unhappy and investors lose trust. This is especially true if the goals that executives have to meet to get their bonuses seem easy or not fair.
The situation with Qualcomm is an example of this problem. Even though the company is making money the profits are not growing as much as they should be. At the time the people in charge are still getting paid more. Qualcomms case shows that sometimes the people, in charge get paid more when the company is not doing as well as it could be.
As Qualcomm continues to navigate competitive pressures in semiconductors, 5G technology, and expanded markets such as automotive and IoT, how executive compensation aligns with strategic outcomes will remain a point of scrutiny among stakeholders.
