Tommy Robinson Charged with Harassment of Journalists, Court Date Set for June

Tommy Robinson, the controversial far-right activist known for his vocal views on Islam and immigration, has been charged with harassment involving two journalists. Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is accused of causing fear of violence during incidents that occurred between August 5 and 7, 2024.

The 42-year-old activist, who is currently serving a prison sentence, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 5, 2025, for the harassment charges.

The Harassment Allegations

Robinson is facing two counts of harassment that allegedly caused fear of violence to the journalists involved. These charges stem from events that took place last summer, though specifics about the incidents have not yet been fully disclosed to the public.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that it had authorized the Metropolitan Police to charge Robinson after reviewing evidence related to the alleged incidents. A spokesperson for the CPS emphasized that Robinson retains the right to a fair trial and that the case is currently in active legal proceedings.

Legal Proceedings

Robinson’s court appearance will be closely watched, as he has long been a polarizing figure in British politics. Known for his role in founding the far-right English Defence League (EDL), Robinson has been involved in numerous legal battles in the past, often related to his public activism and inflammatory rhetoric.

His latest court date is not the only legal issue he faces. Robinson is also set to stand trial in October 2025, where he is accused of failing to provide the PIN for his mobile phone when stopped by police in Folkestone, Kent, in July 2024. This separate trial will deal with his refusal to cooperate with law enforcement during a routine police stop.

Robinson’s Controversial Legacy

Robinson has been a divisive figure in the UK, with supporters praising him for his anti-Islam stance and his efforts to speak out on issues of immigration. However, his critics argue that his actions and rhetoric contribute to hate speech and violence, particularly against Muslims and other minority groups.

His history of legal troubles, including previous convictions for contempt of court, only adds to the controversy surrounding his public persona. Despite being imprisoned at various points, Robinson continues to maintain a significant following online, where he often uses social media platforms to voice his opinions and mobilize supporters.

Tommy Robinson’s upcoming court appearance on harassment charges will likely attract significant media attention, especially given his contentious role in British politics. The case underscores the ongoing debate surrounding free speech, hate speech, and the limits of activism. As Robinson faces these latest legal battles, the public’s response to his actions will likely continue to divide opinion, making this a case worth following closely.
