Ukraine Fighting for Same Values as WWII Allies, Says Starmer
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said Ukraine is fighting for the same values that the Allied forces defended during the Second World War.
Speaking at a reception marking the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, Starmer reflected on a recent conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He said they spoke about the shared values of freedom, democracy, and resistance to tyranny.
Starmer’s comments come as former US President Donald Trump prepares for a high-stakes meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska — talks expected to focus on ending the war in Ukraine.
The prime minister used the anniversary to draw parallels between the sacrifices of the past and the current struggle in Ukraine, reinforcing the UK’s ongoing support for the country.
